The Arizona Advisory Council on Indian Health Care is looking for highly motivated individual to join our team as a Grant Coordinator. Reporting to the Grants Manager (GM), the Grant Coordinator is a grant funded position that assists the Grants Manager in implementing the American Indian Health - AHEC (AIH-AHEC) program. The Grants Coordinator will assist with implementation of the program's youth pathway activities, youth club coordination during the summer and school year, and AHEC Scholars Immersion program along with mentor-ship building. The Grants Coordinator will work closely with Tribes, Tribal organizations and Educational Institutions (K-Graduate school) to address workforce needs in American Indian Health and Tribal Health systems.
The position is grant funded. Employment is contingent upon availability of the grant funds however; employment can be terminated at any time.
This position has the potential work from a Virtual Office (VO) setting or may Telecommute based on the unit's needs and will require statewide travel.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide direct assistance to the Grants Manager to develop, manage, and implement operational frameworks and infrastructure for the AIH-AHEC Youth Pathway and AHEC Scholars programs. Conducts presentations and informational booths for the AIH-AHEC, serves as a back up to the Grants Manager when they are unavailable.
- Coordinates the implementation of youth Pathway activities for grades K-12, facilitates the Health Occupations Student of America (HOSA) chapters in Indigenous high schools. Coordinates student-mentor shadowing and clinical rotations; to include assisting with planning meetings, curriculum, training programs and conferences.
- Introduces American Indian students in grades K-12 to the various professional careers in health care to include medical and public health. Assists in the recruitment and retention of American Indian students in Arizona colleges and universities pursuing medical and/or public health degrees.
- Serves as the primary contact and coordinator for the AHEC Scholars Program (ASP). Recruits and maintains working relationships with university healthcare students towards implementation of a two-year community based experiential training program. Participates in monthly ASP meetings to address the program.
- Assists with maintaining the AIH-AHEC program database with student youth activities, AHEC Scholars activities, and other grant deliverables. Ensures data entry is accurate and reportable.
- Coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of AIH-AHEC Interns projects, develops and maintains oversight of the AIH-AHEC Intern master files and paperwork connected to activities completed by the Intern. Assists with quarterly narrative reports.
- Develops and expands collaborative partnerships and/or relationships with health, governmental, Tribal, social service, educational, and other organizations and individuals where the AIH-AHEC and AACIHC mission and strategic goals align.
Knowledge of:
- Policies, procedures and programs of Tribal health care delivery systems, public health systems, and health care provider education institutions and how they interact with state and federal systems.
- Administrative and management practices.
- Public relations techniques.
- Educational systems and working with youth.
- Online virtual meeting platforms.
- Computer Skills, including experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Products.
Skill in:
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication applicable to the coordination of diverse stakeholder groups.
- Extensive contact with various diversified sectors of the Tribal environment.
Ability to:
- Work independently as a team member.
- Manage multiple tasks within an independent work environment, prioritizing tasks to ensure timelines are met.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
- Ability to work with youth grades K - 12, and undergraduate students.
- Have a professional and proactive work ethic and work with a team dynamic.
Current Arizona State Drivers License.
Minimum:
- 5 years experience in grant services or direct behavioral health services.
- Or, Bachelor's degree and 1 year of grant services or direct behavioral health services experience.
Preferred:
- Bachelors in Health Admin, Public Health, Health Education, or related field; and 3-5 years of experience in public health, Tribal Health Systems, or community health programming.
- Experience in working with Tribal organizations and a knowledge of Indigenous cultures is preferred.
* Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees.
* Successfully pass fingerprint background check, prior employment verifications and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
* Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.) AND have an acceptable driving record for the last 39 months including no DUI, suspension or revocations and less than 8 points on your license. If an Out of State Driver License was held within the last 39 months, a copy of your MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) is required prior to driving for State Business. Employees may be required to use their own transportation as well as maintaining valid motor vehicle insurance and current Arizona vehicle registration; however, mileage will be reimbursed.
